I wasn't able to keep updating this blog last year just after things started to get going. I'll try to be be more active in 2019, which promises to be interesting for a number of reasons, including:
Just right now though it's postdoc season and the HEP community is about to enter the second phase of musical chairs, assigning people to new jobs in different countries. And here in France the New Year in the office will be kicked off with the sweet, sweet taste of galettes des rois.
So I wish you all Bonne Année !
- Br***t is about to hit the fan. While I am a little insulated from the UK propaganda storm that is the news at the moment, the next three months will be rather tense for me and my family as we find out if and what bureaucratic procedures we have to do to continue living and working in France. So far, the Macron government has been rather pragmatic and voted itself the powers to write new laws on the fly (via ordonnances) when the time comes regarding UK citizens in France and French citizens returning from the UK. But for the time being there is no procedure in place for me to apply for anything! At least I don't think it should be as bad as EU citizens in the UK which can now apply to stay in their own homes in exchange for a packet of money and giving away their data to undisclosed commercial partners ...
- Results from the new muon g-2 experiment are hotly anticipated. I have heard a couple of negative rumours about this but I expect/hope that it is just scurrilous negativity.
- It's still looking good to be excited about the B-meson anomalies, even if (or especially because?) none of the theoretical explanations are particularly palatable.
- Analyses from the full run 2 dataset of the LHC should be underway, although don't expect to hear much imminently.
